How to Read a Janam Kundali: Lagna, Rashi and Nakshatra Explained

What a kundali contains

A janam kundali is a map of planetary positions at your time and place of birth. It has 12 houses and 9 planets.

Lagna

The sign rising on the eastern horizon at birth is the lagna. It becomes the first house, so even a few minutes' error in birth time can change it.

Moon sign

The sign the Moon occupied at birth is your moon sign. In India horoscopes are usually read from the moon sign.

Nakshatra

The sky is divided into 27 nakshatras. The one the Moon was in is your birth nakshatra, and it decides the start of the Vimshottari dasha.

It is best to understand the results of a kundali with an experienced astrologer. You can begin by making a free kundali on our site.
